Mybodyhathbeenwindyandrheumaticfrommychildhoodbyanaturaldistemper,30asItakeit,ofmyliver;thehotnesswhereofhathcausedmuchevilunto me.Inthewinter,sixteenhundred,andsix,IthenbeingcurateofSouthfleetin Kent,afteranextremecoughdidsensiblyperceiveblindnessenteredintomine eyes:fordiversmotesseemedtoflybeforeme,whichwaysoeverIturnedmy sight;yea,andspeciallybeforemyrighteye,athinginfashionofakindofchain, sometimesfolded,orturneddiversways,andsometimesatlength.Whatinfirmityintheeyecauseththisappearance,letlearnedphysiciansjudge.Thusithath allthiswhilebeenwithme,increasingmore,andmore,sothatnowIhavemuch adotowrite,ortoread,andamforcedtoholdmyeyes,andthebookverynear together.
