ABSTRACT

The Track Access Control (TAC) Department provides a service to all London Underground lines, supporting safe and timely access to track area working sites by suitably prepared and qualified personnel. A safety related aspect of this service is to ensure that the electrical current remains switched off at the relevant traction current rail sections while workers are located on that particular section of the track. Essentially this is achieved by recording the location of track workers when they begin work, and then the departure of the track workers from the work site when they call to report that they have left the work area. It is only after the work site is reported as being clear that the current can be re-charged.
