Introduction: Exceptionalism and Normalization: Ambiguity and Honour in European Integration Processes

Integration processes are difficult – as is well known especially from the field of national immigration law and practice. Most European nation states have had difficulties integrating immigrants within their own borders and most EU Member States have difficulties integrating themselves into the European communities, be it the EU or the Council of Europe with its Human Rights focus.
