ABSTRACT

The origins of the Olivieri family can be traced to Sesto Fiorentino, where, according to the Priorista Mariani, they were previously known as Benvenuti.1 Presumably their later surname was acquired from a certain Ulivo, who lived in the first half of the thirteenth century.2 The family is sometimes referred to as Ulivieri, and sometimes as Olivieri; the second version will be used here and throughout the rest of the book.3
