ABSTRACT

Milton Morrill was interested in the new technology of concrete construction. Within the satisfaction of his curiosity was the realization that concrete was not suited to emulating historical styles, to that form of ornamental precedent. He also realized that to eectively use the plastic yet solid material he had to simplify his buildings in oor plan and third dimension. As a result, the idea that a building should characterize a geographic social region was, probably, not even considered. Boldly he resolved that a practical approach and reductive aesthetic was necessary and sucient. Irving Gill’s motivation was dierent.
