ABSTRACT

Architects Walter and Marion Grin were experienced in detailing the application of the relatively new, increasingly useful and popular construction material of reinforced concrete, either precast or poured in situ, that is a wet mix poured into wood formwork constructed at a building site. At the time in situ was called “monolithic”, the preferred term. For many years the Grins were occupied in Wright’s oce working on details or supervising the construction of concrete structures such as Unity Temple, E-Z Polish Factory (Chicago, 1905), two Universal Portland Cement Company exhibits in Bualo and Madison Square Garden, and the Larkin Administration Building in Bualo. Or they were similarly occupied in other architect’s oces.
