ABSTRACT

One of the key tasks for any manager, and one of the most important determinants of success is to manage resources. The most significant resource in the personal social services is the staff. As a critical resource of any manager is the skills of the staff, care has to be taken in allocating skills appropriately. Managers also need to recognise that enabling work is a good way of creating resources. Managers constantly are having to make decisions about allocating the resources at their disposal, usually when demand exceeds supply. Important resources of any social services organisation are the premises. One way to approach a sense of bombardment is for managers to try to create a sense of calm and control. An important part of managing resources is constant evaluation of the effectiveness of services. Any framework for time management for all team members should include elements which are sacrosanct and cannot be altered.
