ABSTRACT

At least some of the answers are being provided by new cordless technologies, freeing the office from the tyranny of cable management which led to over engineered, factory-like desking solutions in the 1980s. As with other new office models we have looked at, such as the town square or village neighbourhood, mobile phones and laptops make a difference in creating more random and natural working patterns. To fully exploit the social potential of the club - in particular the relationship between private study and group activities such as meeting and eating - new technology needs to be ubiquitous but somehow invisible.
