ABSTRACT

In order to support the deployment of e-society applications and services, in 1997 the European Community launched the Trans-European Telecommunications Networks (TEN-Telecom) action, which since 2003 has been called ‘eTEN’. TEN-Telecom aims to promote the use of global telecommunications networks in areas of high socio-economic value, by promoting across Europe new multimedia applications and generic services of common interest that such infrastructures make possible. It is biased towards applications from the users’ point of view – not that of infrastructure deployment.
