ABSTRACT

In this chapter it will be argued that Ezek. 27 has to do with a cosmic ship and its role in the overthrow of enemies terrestrial and mythological. A greater concentration of mythological and ritual themes appears to be present than has been admitted in previous studies, though recently C. Auffarth (1991, pp. 93-4) has recognized that the materials used in Ezek. 27 are not usual in building a vessel but they are the materials used in building the ships for the processions in the Babylonian New Year festival.
