ABSTRACT

This chapter elaborates on the socio-Iegal reality of legal pluralism in modem legal systems. It provides a theoretical discussion that is supported by observational data. The major task of this chapter, therefore, is to develop a model of the operation of law in society that will enable us to classify legal pluralism studies, to pursue the manifold facets of the interaction between official and unofficial laws, and to encompass Muslim legal pluralism in post-modem age.
