ABSTRACT

In 2004 there was a series of events to celebrate ten years of the Internet as a commercial medium. In a decade, a communications revolution had penetrated the day-to-day operations of companies all over the world and afforded individuals access to information on a scale unimaginable a few years earlier. There are now close to a billion people on the Internet. The Internet of course had not been conceived with business in mind and it took some considerable time for its potential to be identified even following the development of the World Wide Web. However, its time came and with it wholly misplaced forecasts for its immediate commercial impact.
