ABSTRACT
The discussion so far has been centred on issues such as who rides and the social environment within which they ride. given the relative danger of the motorcycle as a mode of transport (dfT 2007c; RoSPA 2001), there has to be some discussion on the motivations for riding. Having dispelled some of the myths associated with the image of bikers and their ‘outlaw’ reputation, the reasons for riding will be explored in this chapter.
