ABSTRACT
Compared to other coalfields Yorkshire seems uninteresting. Syndicalism was unimportant. Communism had little impact until after the war, Spencerism never took root, and there were no splits. Unity and solidarity were maintained and conflict was contained within the Yorkshire Mine Workers' Association (YMWA) which was reflected in the ideological dominance of a staunch labourism.
