ABSTRACT

Philosophical hermeneutics, Gadamer says, is not a method.1 et method, traditionally, has seemed indispensable to hermeneutics. From its origins in biblical exegesis, to its interactions with modern experimental science, the theory of interpretation has consisted in techniques and standards (methods) for gaining valid results. Arguably, in being methodical, hermeneutics has not been philosophical. et in being nonmethodical, Gadamer’s philosophy seems, perhaps, non-hermeneutical.
