ABSTRACT

As already discussed, in recent years the GMC has changed and developed aspects of its regulatory role. However, none of these changes could be described as groundbreaking. The GMC has sought to tackle this previously lacklustre approach with one big idea – revalidation.1 The GMC was empowered to introduce revalidation from 2002.2 The effectiveness of the revalidation process is likely to be of great importance to the future credibility of the GMC. The successful implementation of revalidation has the potential to significantly enhance the GMC’s reputation, but unsuccessful implementation could seriously erode this reputation and undermine the progress already made.
