For many years now, so many virtuosi have flocked to Hamburg, so many have been lauded in the local newspapers, so many concerts advertised, one reads so much here of the passion for music that it would hardly be surprising if entire orchestras and opera companies were to pack their bags and move here in order to entertain such an audience of music-lovers, especially such a wealthy and lavish one.1
