ABSTRACT

In terms of relationship building, it is important to fully understand the competencies of each generation. Combining competency understanding with the information about each generation’s strengths, weaknesses, expectations, and values allows individuals within organizations to build productive and positive relationships. Research conducted by Patota, Schwartz, and Schwartz has shown there are eight emblematic competencies that define how people of all generations function in the workplace (2007). These eight competencies include developing people, communication skills, team work, customer service, organizational objectives, managing resources, problem solving, and valuing diversity (Patota, Schwartz, & Schwartz 2007).
