ABSTRACT

A journey in personal history Barbara is a North-American woman who works as a programmer for a computer company. Barbara was born in a town in the southern part of the continent. She moved a lot when she was a child as her father worked in the Air Force. Her mother was a waitress most all of her adult life, Barbara explains, but after her parents’ divorce, her mother went to school to learn accountancy. Europe relates directly to her personal history since her father had Norwegian parents and her mother’s family came from Germany. She has never seen her relatives in Norway, and now she wants to explore this side of herself. Barbara did not talk about her expectations concerning visiting her family, but referred to her father as a person she did not like very much, but who was one of the bravest men you could ever want to meet. Barbara is very curious about learning more about her relatives in Norway who are roughly the same age as her. One thing she would like to learn more about is the history of Norway and how Norwegians see themselves, because she has noticed that Norwegians still tell stories connected to World War II. At home, she says she never even heard about World War II. She is sure there is a monument somewhere, but she does not know where.
