ABSTRACT
There are a number of issues regarding the author of the Gospel in scholarship: Was the author Luke, as the tradition generally maintained? If so, was that Luke a doctor, and can that be determined in part from his vocabulary and style? And was the author a Jew or a Gentile? Above all, the most discussed issue has been the historical reliability of Acts in particular, and the status of Luke as an historian in general.
