ABSTRACT

The current combination of forces affecting the global airline industry is leading airlines to re-evaluate their networks, in some cases to reduce the number and type of markets served, and in other cases to expand the list of destinations served. In either case, the markets under consideration are being explored at different levels, ranging from individual city pairs (evaluated on the number of origin-destination passengers by fare type) to entire countries (those with large populations and growing economies), and, even at the level of continents.
