ABSTRACT
This edited collection comes at an interesting time for trade union education. The twenty-fifth anniversary of the publication of the first Stage 1 Union Representatives course will be marked by a new edition of this influential programme of learning for shop stewards and workplace representatives. Figures prepared for the 2007 Trades Union Congress (TUC) show that participation in trade union education is at an all-time high; higher than in 1976 when the first education packs were prepared and launched and at a time when the trade union movement was more than five million stronger. National union education officers report similar growth and vibrancy in individual union programmes.
