ABSTRACT
Passive comfort provision within contemporary illegal and unplanned settlements in India is often sacrificed to the need for high density accommodation. Even the resettlement colonies planned by the Delhi government to re-house slum dwellers, offer plot sizes too small to provide adequate through ventilation. Within this context a modern urban vernacular is emerging: a new architecture without architects (1).
