Awaterproofmembranemustbelaidonthesub-basetopreventwaterdraining outoftheconcreteroadbasebeforeithasset.Abitofslipbetweenthesub-base andtheroadbaseisconsideredagoodthing,butreinforcedroadbasesshouldbe laidonabitumenemulsionsprayinsteadtokeeptheupperlayersinplace.Freshly pouredconcretemustbe'cured',thatis,protectedfromfrost,heatanddrying windsbycoveringitwithplasticsheet,sprayingitwithwater,orlayingwethessian sheetingtoppedwithplasticsheet.Plasticcanbesprayedonandpeeledofflater likeagiantlollywrapping.
