ABSTRACT

Giovanni Francesco Sitoni is a practically unknown figure and this is the first monograph which has been written about a man who was, in his day, an important engineer in Italy and Spain. The leading people of his time were satisfied with the way he carried out the undertakings with which they entrusted him, even though sometimes the results were doubtful or gave rise to controversy. In addition, in his closing years, he wrote one of the oldest known treatises on hydraulic work. All of this being so, one may ask why no one has made a study of him. In my opinion, there are several reasons.
