ABSTRACT

To survive, adapt and dominate under shortand long-term climatic changes, in the face of varying geotopography, the Chimu society continually improved and refined its civil engineering skills (Ortloff 1981; 1988; 1994; Ortloff et al. 1982; 1985). This article focuses on one aspect of Chimu technology: the surveying and hydraulic design of canals. TTiese were the skills necessary to design functioning canal systems to transport and distribute water to agricultural field systems.
