ABSTRACT

The Swedish system has features both of civil law and of common law. Thus precedents play a more important role than they do in a dear-cut civil law or code system. Sweden has courts of first instance, six courts of appeal and a Supreme Court. Since Sweden is not a federal state, it ha.s - apart from administrative courts and the like - only one court organization. We shall discuss mainly the practice of the Supreme Court, with occasional reference to one or other of the courts of appeal.
