ABSTRACT
The last quarter of the twentieth century was often referred to as the ‘era of migration’. Although statistical evidence does not unequivocally validate this popular view, it seems obvious that the fl ows and countries of migrants’ origin and destination have become more diversifi ed in that period (Zlotnik, 1998).
