ABSTRACT

The international community has delegated that power, through the United Nations Charter, to the Security Council so that it might take the primary responsibility to ensure international peace and security. The Members of the League undertake to respect and preserve as against external aggression the territorial integrity and existing political independence of all Members of the League. The ‘Tanker War’ turned the Iran-Iraq War—for many Permanent Members of the Security Council and Gulf States—from being an Iraqi war of aggression to a war to attempt to stem the export of the Iranian Revolution Few commentators accept Israel’s pretext for its 6 July 1982 invasion of Lebanon as being the true motivation behind its undertaking of an act of aggression against its northern neighbor. The legitimacy of law is based on its supposed impartial nature, wherein it is meant to be applied on a non-discriminatory basis.
