Reproductive Rights and Abortion 1. The Problem You are a lawyer for Women on Waves (WOW), a group which travels on a medical ship (The Aurora) flying under the flag of the Netherlands. WOW provides counseling, contraceptives, and abortions for women whose countries do not. WOW anchors outside of the territorial sea of a country and women are ferried from the mainland to obtain its services. WOW plans to go to Ireland and has asked you to advise regarding the following legal issues:
1. Whether Ireland can prohibit women from taking the ferry out to The Aurora? 2. Even if Irish women cannot be prevented from coming out to the boat, can
Irish teenagers be prohibited from doing so? 3. If either Irish women or Irish teenagers return from the boat with instructions
for follow-up care after taking the abortion pill, can they be arrested under Irish law?
