ABSTRACT
Lisa, who was born in South Africa, and Arturo, who was born in Italy, were married in South Africa in 1989. They lived in Italy for a few years, where their daughter, Maria, was born in 1996. In 1997, the family emigrated to Canada and in 1998 Lisa and Arturo separated. In 1999, a consent order was entered into before the Supreme Court of British Columbia. It granted the mother sole custody of Maria and the father rights of access.
