ABSTRACT
Cain sees the present period of information technologies as a period of transition, comparable to the phase of transition from spoken to written language. The development and application of new information technologies in companies and administrative bodies also requires modern methods of assessing and passing on information, thus confronting the archivist with new tasks and challenges.
