ABSTRACT

The avai lability of infrastructure services is critical to the functioning of the modern urban environment. The presence, the absence, the quality of infrastructure services affects the wel l -being of residents, determines the efficient operation of the urban economy and assists in the effective functioning of property markets. In order to fulfil these purposes infrastructure services need to be widely and easily available. The chapters in this volume examine the means by which local government agencies attempt to secure necessary infrastructure in order to provide for the welfare of citizens and the effective operation of the urban economy.
