ABSTRACT

The collection of papers contained in this volume address the theoretical and empirical connection between collective identity and integration. The different contributions prove to have some findings in common:

• It can be clearly determined that migrants are involved in processes of assimilation (compare Karakasoglu; Priimm, Sackmann and Schultz; Sunier; Sauter). This supports the proposition put forward by Peters (in this volume) that - given the conditions prevalent today - in the long term, processes of integration are likely to result in assimilation.
