ABSTRACT

Is research about male migrants really needed? It is certainly unusual to place first-generation male migrants in the focus of research.2 The reason for this fact could be that in the past researchers had recognized there was a lack of knowledge about the living conditions, the social and sexual behaviour, as well as about the family relations of migrant women and children. This resulted in a huge number of more or less qualified studies. There seemed to be no need to do any research into the male migrant population. But the simple assumption that any research that is not focusing on women must equate to being research on men is a misapprehension, as I will demonstrate later.
