ABSTRACT

Sincetheintroductionoftheearliestcivilairlinersmanynewtechnologieshave beenintroduced,designedtoreducethepilots'workload.Thishasledtothe automationofmanytasksthatwerepreviouslyperformedbythepilots,oreven flightengineers,navigatorsandradiooperators.Asaresult,thepilotingtaskhas changeddramatically.Whereasthepilotsoriginallyflewtheaircraftmanually throughouttheflight,todaytheymayperformonlythetake-offmanually, commandingtherestoftheflight,includingthelanding,throughtheflight managementsystem.Hence,mostoftheemphasisinHumanFactorshasbeen orientedtowardspilots'interactionwiththeautoflightsystems.
