ABSTRACT

All these breakdowns in communication can result in the information you are giving not being correctly received. This is neatly summed up by a saying attributed to ex-President Richard Nixon: 'I know that you understand what you think I said, but I am not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant'. Which clearly demonstrates the need for the last element of communication, feedback. Feedback is important because you can test both the students' understanding and reaction to the information you have given. The skilled presenter will observe feedback at two levels:

• The audience will give feedback with their body language and general interest and interaction with the presenter.
