ABSTRACT

The impaired health status of fuel-poor households in Europe was demonstrated in a previous chapter. Data from the Urban Institute of Ireland’s (UII) national household survey of Ireland are used in this chapter to analyse, in more detail, specific health outcomes associated with fuel poverty in Ireland. In light of the key policy-dri vers associated with improved energy efficiency, outlined in Chapter 5, this study identifies some key associations between fuel poverty and health using self-reported data. The context for Ireland has already been discussed in previous chapters, so this chapter concentrates on presenting the results of the UII survey; some discussion is given towards the end of the chapter regarding the key findings of the survey.
