The roots of informal logic in Plato

No major figure in the history of rhetoric is more misunderstood than Plato. The Sophists against whom he argued have developed their defenders; his most famous student is often treated as if ideas sprang full-grown from the brow of his pupil, Aristotle. Consequently there are at least three myths that should be dispelled before we explore the roots of informal logic in Plato.
