Primary flight reference criteria

Primary flight references (PFRs) are displays which provide sufficient information for the pilot to fly the airplane during a particular mission segment.1 ‘Sufficient information’ means that contained in the traditional head-down ‘basic T,’ such as airspeed, altitude, and attitude. Appropriate substitutions can be made, depending on the phase of flight: a for airspeed, radar altitude for barometric altitude, etc.
