Ethics codes are not of recent vintage. They are, to the contrary, integral elements of attempts throughout human history to understand and define the nature and the character of the ethical responsibilities of human beings for their conduct and its impact on others. Historically, ethics codes have been formulated with a view to guiding the behaviour of individuals, groups, organisations, governments, societies, and, most recently, corporations.
