Peace was shortlived for in 1657 the Danish king declared war. The Swedish King Charles X Gustavus (1654-60) seized the opportunity to attack Denmark. In a bold operation he led his army across the frozen waters from Jutland to Copenhagen and imposed the Roskilde Peace Treaty of 1658,
