ABSTRACT

The royal paper of Charles Emanuele III, signed by the minister Bogino and sent to the Count of Tana, viceroy of Sardinia, towards the end of 1759, mentioned among other things the need to promote the development of agriculture and industry on the island and make the arts flourish 1• It also asserted that the statutory laws of the Gremi, probably once suited to the situation, were by now outdated and 'more likely tended to keep the arts in a state of negligence and coarseness.' The suggestion of the Junta, presided by the viceroy, was thus approved. A special delegation was created in order to examinate the statutes and carry out variations and additions on purpose to improve the functioning of the arts themselves?
