ABSTRACT

Thesignificanceinaviationoftherelationbetweeneffectiveteamworkandsafety iswelldocumentedinaccidentandincidentreports,whichshowbreakdownsin teamworkandfailurestocommunicate.ThetermCrewResourceManagement (CRM)wascoinedtodenotenon-technicalskillsthatenhancetheeffective utilizationofallavailableresources(e.g.crewmembers,airplanesystemsand othersupportinggroups).CRMtrainingwasfirstintroducedasanefforttochange attitudesthatimpairsafeteamworkandthebestuseofavailableresources.Among theseareself-perceptionsthatdenyhumanlimitationssuchasconstrictedcapacity toprocessinformationorimpairmentscausedbyexposuretohighlevelsofstress orlackofrecoveryfromfatiguethatresultsfromintenseworkshifts.However, changesinattitudedonotalwaysleadtoachangeinbehavior(Ajzen&Fishbein, 1980).Therefore,CRMtrainingadvancedinthedirectionofpracticalskilltraining insimulators.
