ABSTRACT
Ingeneral,muchoftheliteratureintheorganizationsciences,andinrelationtothe make-upofsafeorganizationsinparticular,isconcernedwithanalyzingand designingadequatemechanismsofco-ordinationwithinandbetweenpartsofan organization.Akeyissueinthisrespectisthedegreeofstandardizationofsuch co-ordination.Usually,themoreroutineworkprocessesarethemorestandardized andhavethemoreformalizedco-ordination,whileworkprocessesrequiringaction innovelsituationsarelessprescribed(e.g.Kieser&Kubicek,1992;Thompson, 1967).
