ABSTRACT
It has become a truism to say that human resources are an organization’s most valuable asset. This is equally the case where a single person is operating a facility or where hundreds are employed in a library and information service (LIS) spread over several sites. What is less widely acknowledged is that human resources are, as a general rule, less well managed than the other assets of LIS. They are also probably the most difficult actually to manage.
