ABSTRACT
One cannot work holistically without integrating gender and sexuality into one's thinking, although, as in many aspects of our work, the issues are sensitive and delicate and are often addressed as part of other issues. As with culture, the perception of gender and sexuality is filtered through the gender and sexuality of the professional, the lens through which patient and carer is focused. In addition to multi-professional teamwork in palliative care, it is also recognised that in practice if a broad discussion involving different gender perspectives is held, a more balanced decision may result (Randall and Downie, 1996).
