ABSTRACT

The question of how far the risk of a new eugenicism is sufficiently different from the old is explored from the perspectives of different actors in the social shaping of the new genetics. US and UK critical voices are contrasted, together with that of an international opposition feminist grouping. The paper suggests that it is timely for science, technology and society researchers to move beyond their rich but mostly non-formative analyses, towards actively helping to expand the networks, and through this the possibility of a democratic and normatively reshaped technoscience.
