ABSTRACT
The debate on apostasy and its punishment is also linked today to a wider debate on the activities of Christian missionaries in the Muslim world and the challenge this poses to Muslims. Both Islam and Christianity are missionary religions; of all the major religious traditions, they are the most ‘evangelical’. Consequently, they compete with each other for adherents.
