ABSTRACT
Family mediation practice in the United Kingdom has been self regulated voluntarily from its early beginnings but more recently subject to government regulation with the advent o f public funding for family mediation. The article traces the development o f this regulatory frame worky exploring some o f the central tensions that have shaped the emer gence o f family mediation as a distinct and autonomous professional intervention.
